Recipe for Rosemary leaves

COLORS
ALUM - GREENISH-YELLOW
COPPER - YELLOW-GREEN
TIN - GREENISH-YELLOW, DARKER
CHROME - BRASSY YELLOW-GREEN

LIGHTFASTNESS
ALUM - EXCELLENT (Color darkened to Tan)
COPPER - EXCELLENT
TIN - EXCELLENT (Color darkened to Reddish-Brown)
CHROME - EXCELLENT

All the mordants used were very lightfast. After 4 weeks of sunlight, the colors were as strong as they had been at the beginning of the test. However, Alum and Tin darkened during testing.

INGREDIENTS
18 oz. trimmings from tips, some new growth, gathered 5/24/98
1 oz. pre-mordanted wool yarn
Water to cover

METHOD
1) Put Rosemary trimmings in pot. Cover with water. Soak overnight.
2) Add presoaked wool. Bring to a boil (1/2 hour), then simmer 45 minutes more.
3) Cool overnight in dyepot.
4) Rinse.
5) Dry in shade.
